Draft outcome document

It seems that the text of the Outcome Document is close to being finalised – with just the thorny issue of ‘foreign occupation’ holding things up.

The agreed language on MDG5b seems to be as follows:

Para 63 r. Welcoming the Secretary-General’s Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health, undertaken by a broad coalition of partners, in support of national plans and strategies, in order to significantly reduce the number of maternal, newborn and under five child deaths as a matter of immediate concern, by scaling up a priority package of high impact interventions, and integrating efforts in sectors like health, education, gender equality, water and sanitation, poverty reduction, and nutrition. (AGREED AD REF)

It’s not particularly progressive language – not that we were expecting it – but at least it is in, unlike lots of other key development issues. Grateful for small mercies?
